Topic: A Final Look at 2019 and On To 2020 for Your ASC
CMS UPDATE-DID YOU MISS THE 11/29/2019 DEADLINE?
2019 presented a few wins for our ASC’s. Let’s take a look at what they were and how you should best approach each for your ASC. This one- hour session will cover the finalized CMS changes that were part of the Omnibus Burden Reduction Final Rule 9/26/19 and effective 11/29/19 which include:
- The 30 - day comprehensive H & P now may be determined by facility policy
- Hospital transfer agreement or admitting privileges no longer required
- Decrease in the Emergency Operations Plan requirements including review at two years vs one, training every two years vs annually, one testing drill annually vs two, and no need to document coordination efforts.
- Discussion of proposed Appendix L and Z.
We will discuss the red flags as you compare the federal requirements to your state and accreditation body requirements.
PHARMACY UPDATE
In addition, ASC’s experienced some new rules in regard to pharmacy management. Specifically intended to reduce the intentional sewering of hazardous waste pharmaceuticals, Part 266 Subpart B became effective 8/21/19. On the other hand, USP 800, which has been updated and is effective 12/1/19, speaks to the handling of hazardous drugs within your organization.
QUALITY REPORTING UPDATE
Let’s review what you will be submitting for the current year and how the measures shape up for 2020. Once again participation in the OAS CAHPS (patient satisfaction) program remains voluntary!
ACCREDITATION ORGANIZATION UPDATE
We will discuss the few changes, or constants, from AAAASF, AAAHC, HFAP, IMQ, and TJC.
Handouts for this session include:
- CMS Federal Register effective 11/29/19 for ASC’s
