About Our Presenter: Cathy Montgomery, RN, President of Excellentia Advisory Group

Cathy has over 20 years of experience in healthcare services management. During her position as Regional Manager for Barnes Hospital, Cathy oversaw several physician practices. As Regional Administrator for Novamed, she oversaw operations of the physician practices, as well as the ambulatory surgery centers and optical shops in the Metro St. Louis and Illinois areas. Under her direction, a state-of-the-art refractive surgery center was also designed and opened in St. Louis, MO.

Cathy is Founder and President of Excellentia Advisory Group, a consulting and development company serving both the surgical industry through ASC’s as well as surgical hospitals and office-based surgical practices. Cathy’s passion has been teaching compliance to CMS Conditions of Coverage, AAAHC accreditation, and assisting ASCs with their survey readiness.

About Our Presenter: Mary Bennett, RN, CIC, Infection Preventionist

As the Director of Infection Control for Excellentia, Mary helps ambulatory surgery centers with the development and implementation of new infection control policies, strategies, and helpful tips for infection control management.  Mary customizes infection control manuals for Excellentia’s clients.  She also does one-on-one training as well as on-site mock surveys to help ASCs become better prepared for CMS infection control survey.  Mary is a teacher/presenter on monthly educational webinars and also authors an Infection Control Newsletter.  Mary just recently passed her CIC examination for her second 5-year term.

Description:  Mary Bennett, RN, CIC participates with Cathy Montgomery in a discussion of infection prevention Policies & Procedures for the ambulatory surgery center.
The viewing time is 1 hour and 2 minutes.

Learning Objectives:

• Learn how to create Policies & Procedures for your Infection Prevention program.
• Be able to discuss what national organizations and guidelines will be referenced in your policies and why you will follow those guidelines.
• Learn about those policies that are most frequently forgotten or overlooked.
• Learn about the important of training your entire staff on the policies and how to respond to CMS surveyors questions.
• Be able to reference the State Operations Manual, Guidance for Surveyors and know what they are trained to look for in their surveys.
